No More Back Pain

Have you been suffering from back pain for several weeks now? Were you told by your doctor that the pain would subside with little medical intervention, but yet it has lingered for far too long? Here are some of the treatment options available if you finally want to say no more to back pain.

Rest: The bones and soft tissues of your body are designed to be used. The human body is flexible, and it is built to run, lift heavy weights, and to work all day. Our bodies are not built with solid, unchanging frames but are constantly being reformed - building up new tissues to replace the old ones that have become worn out. Yet there are times when it helps out body to take a step back and to rest some of the body parts that have become strained and worn out. In many cases, injured body parts are able to heal themselves at a faster rate when they are not being used. Minimizing movement and ceasing to exercise or fork for a few days may allow muscles, nerve roots, and facet joints some time to heal so that the back symptoms will decrease.

Ice Packs and Heat: Icing may be used over the injured areas to decrease inflammation. Heat packs may be used over the injured areas to increase circulation and to stimulate healing processes. These two treatments may be used alternately.

Acupuncture: Acupuncture continues to emerge as a viable treatment option for back pain, especially in cases where chiropractic adjustments and physical therapy are not enough to accelerate recovery. This is a Chinese Medicine form of therapy in which the person applying the treatments applies stimulation to certain pressure points in the body to reverse the course of disease. It is believed that disease processes occur when energy channels in out body become obstructed. Pain is one of the initial symptoms that we experience as certain diseases in our body progress. We may reverse the progression of diseases by applying stimulation to certain pressure points in the body, also known as acupuncture points or Meridian points. The acupuncture therapist makes a determination of which points to stimulate based on how the patient's body feels and when symptoms are described. These acupuncture points may be stimulated though the insertion of tiny needles, though there are means of stimulation.

Laser Acupuncture: Laser acupuncture is a more modern version of this ancient treatment that may help you to finally have no more back pain. Acupuncture points may be stimulated with extremely thin needles of depths from a few millimeters to ever an inch. This is the most common means of stimulation of these points. Other variations of this type of treatment modality include acupressure, sonopuncture, and laser acupuncture treatment.

Cold Laser Therapy: Cold laser therapy, also known as low-level laser therapy (LLLT), is another innovate treatment program that involve the use of new technologies to stimulate the healing of injured body tissues. With this treatment, a device delivers laser energy through the skin and into the part of the body where the patient reports pain. The laser energy is composed of photons of light which are designed to affect the injured tissues. A continuous stream of photon energy is applied to the injured body part from 30 seconds to several minutes at a time. These photons pass though the skin without harming the skin cells. The photons are absorbed by the cells in the injured tissues of the body.

Why does the absorption of these photons by the cells accelerate healing? We really don't know for sure, but we do know that there are several hard scientific studies that support the benefits of this treatment. A Journal of Athletic Training article reported variable benefits of this treatment. Some patients reported significant relief, while others experienced effects similar to their baseline pain levels.
